'America's greatest gift to Israel'

As the country's founder and first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, once declared, "America's greatest gift to Israel was Al Schwimmer." Joining the Haganah, Schwimmer discovered, wasn't as easy as just strolling through the door. "He felt he had to do his part in creating a Jewish state, so this could never happen again," Schwimmer recalled. Rather than melt down the surplus weapons for scrap, Liff told Greenspun to take as much as he wanted — free of charge. NICOSIA (Reuters) - A U.S.-based charity said a consignment of almost 200 tons of food aid had reached starving people in northern Gaza on Tuesday, a week after being despatched via a maritime route from the Cypriot port of Larnaca. World Central Kitchen (WCK), working with the United Arab Emirates and Spanish charity Open Arms, sent the food via the 200-mile (322-km) sea route from Larnaca to a makeshift jetty off Gaza. War in Israel and Gaza View All 222 ImagesA U.N.-backed report said on Monday that famine was "imminent" in the northern Gaza Strip, where some 300,000 people are trapped by fighting. In Search of Spring
  + stars: | 2024-03-16 | by ( Melissa Kirsch | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
When does spring begin? For some, it’s the second Sunday in March, when we turn our clocks forward by an hour in the United States. It’s only a three-hour flight from La Guardia (rainy, cold) to West Palm Beach (sunny, 81 degrees, slight breeze), and from there an hour’s drive to Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, the spring training home of the New York Mets. Here in Port St. Lucie on a Tuesday afternoon, weeks before the season’s official start, cheery fans were decked out in team merch, drinking Modelo Especial tallboys and snacking on peanuts, reeling off stats, heckling the players. Here, spring was already happening.

During 2022-2023, ocean carriers used some of those reserves for their own buying sprees to expand their footprints. While adding to the ocean carrier bunker fuel costs, they are being compensated.. "The Red Sea diversions are a good thing for ocean carriers. The big question mark is the duration of the diversions and the surcharges the ocean carriers can charge. Those two regions have steadily taken market share away from the West Coast ports, with shippers also benefitting from investments in ports infrastructure. "The West Coast ports have strengthened infrastructure," Iampieri said.

It remains unclear if a public funeral will be held for one of Putin's most vocal opponents. AdvertisementI've taken 50 cruises with family and friends, and I'm always looking to try out new routes with different port stops. Before I ever book a cruise — which I do about six times a year — I try to find either a new-to-me ship or a new-to-me route. If neither of those options works for my budget or timeframe, I opt for a familiar favorite. Here are my favorite cruise routes that I'm always happy to book, and the ones I don't need to sail again.

I went with family members and we paid $3,175 a person, which is about $144 a day. Erin YarnallI never thought any sort of trip to Antarctica would be in my budget, let alone a cruise. DETROIT (AP) — Owners of Toyota and Lexus electric vehicles in North America will be able to charge on Tesla's network starting in 2025, and the Japanese automaker also will start using Tesla's EV connector. In a statement Thursday, Toyota says it will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard plug in a little over a year. The announcement comes just after Hyundai, Kia and BMW made similar announcements for their electric vehicles. In June SAE International, formerly the Society of Automotive Engineers, said that it would set performance standards for Tesla’s electric vehicle charging cords. Volvo Cars has also signed a deal with Tesla to join its charging network.

Meanwhile, parents and experts say schools neglect students with math disabilities like dyscalculia, which affects up to 7% of the population and often coexists with dyslexia. Learning struggles for some may be due to dyscalculia or other math learning disabilities, yet few teachers report their students have been screened for dyscalculia. Experts say learning the most effective methods for teaching students with math disabilities could strengthen math instruction for all students. Part of the problem is that teachers don’t receive the training needed to work with children with math disabilities. “It’s pretty rare for undergraduate degrees or even master’s degrees to focus on math learning disabilities with any level of breadth, depth, quality or rigor,” said Amelia Malone, director of research and innovation at the National Center for Learning Disabilities.
